Mission

  • Responsible for managing all Health & Safety programs in place at Portonovi to ensure the implementation of best practices and high Health & Safety standards.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparing/control the documents required from the area of safety by the laws (Health & Safety at Work, Fire protection and Protection of the environment).
  • Responsible for planning, developing and implementing Safety plans, programs, SOPs, training of the whole employees from Portonovi regarding safety policies.
  • To ensure all Health & Safety programs, Protection of the environment and Fire protection programs are successfully deployed and functioning in Portonovi.
  • Be familiar with property safety, Safety at Work and Health, First Aid and Fire and Emergency procedures and operate equipment safely and sensibly.
  • Demonstrate Awareness of Health and Safety Responsibilities (H&S) policies and procedures and ensure all procedures are conducted safely and within (H&S) guidelines.
  • To ensure Health & Safety & Protection of the environment & Fire protection training programs are implemented throughout all departments, conducting training session audits.
  • To use established processes and training programs to further improve departmental goals
  • To develop and present function-specific Health & Safety training programs, working in conjunction with the Training and Development Department.
  • Maintains knowledge of complex industry trends, safety technology and update management on risk, recommending the new methods to be applied at the Portonovi.
  • Monitors and evaluates performance of all working in Portonovi, recommending corrective action programs here appropriate.
  • Initiate action to correct a hazardous situation and notify managers of potential dangers.
  • Responsible for providing advice and counsel to line management and all employees on safety policy and practices regarding safety of employees.
  • To monitor, analyse and report on the performance of Health & Safety equipment, systems and procedures.
  • To monitor and pre-empt changes in local requirements and adapt training and communications processes accordingly.
  • To monitor accident and incident reports to analyse trends and proactively apply necessary measures as applicable.
  • To review and monitor emergency procedures, system applications and testing.
  • To assess, investigate and report on Health & Safety incidents and resolve these.
  • To act as a technical specialist for Health & Safety related matters.
  • To adopt a proactive and pre-emptive approach to managing risk,
  • To proactively identify Health & Safety shortcomings & development needs.
  • To conduct regular Health & Safety compliance assessments.
  • To liaise with all heads of department on issues relating to the application of Health & Safety programs and assess the needs of each department/function
  • To provide administrative, management and technical support for PRMC.
  • To attend department meetings as required and actively participate in the functional process of the Safety& Security department.
  • Be aware of duty of care and adhere to occupational, health and safety legislation, policies and procedures.
  • To liaise with all levels of company departments and employees on safety related issues.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned by the Safety & Security Director.


Education and previous experience

  • University degree or higher
  • Diploma or relevant courses with MNE national license in the Health & Safety field
  • Management experience
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in similar functions
  • Previous experience within the Health & Safety field
  • Experience in developing and promoting a safety minded culture.


Preferred competencies

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a team
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Knowledge of other languages
  • Computer literate
  • Detailed knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation
  • Internal auditor ISO 9001 or ISO 14001certification.
